Team India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja brought up his 16th half-century in Tests helping his side's lead go beyond fifty against England.
The Indian team all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja is slowly and gradually making everyone take notice of him as a Test batsman playing some crucial knocks consistently especially since 2019 averaging over 50 in red-ball cricket. Jadeja's batting and sword-fighting skills were on display on Friday as well after he brought up his 16th half-century in Test matches against England in the first Test.
Jadeja joined Rahul when India were still 38 runs behind England's total and had half their side back in the pavilion. The left-hander took his time and let Rahul dictate terms before he got his eyes in. The duo stitched a 60-run partnership and took their side into the lead.
Rahul after surviving two dropped chances ran out of his luck and James Anderson dismissed the opener for 84 runs. India were 205/6 and 22 runs ahead of England but they still needed someone in the lower order to produced an innings of substance to get 60-70 runs more in their bag and Jadeja produced just that.
Soon after Rahul was dismissed, Shardul Thakur too went back and the visitors were in danger of getting all out before their lead could reach even 50. Then Jadeja took the onus on him.
He farmed the strike, got occasional boundaries and after he crossed 40, took the aggressor's role. He completed his 16th fifty in Test matches, which included eight fours and a six and India were 49 runs ahead now.
He got out trying to hit a big shot against the run of play but he had done his job. Jadeja after reaching his fifty brought out his favourite sword celebration as the whole dressing room including Virat Kohli was up on their feet as they knew the importance of this innings. The users on Twitter praised Jadeja saying he is India's most valuable player currently.

Here are some of the reactions:
Jadeja's consistency as a batter across all formats since 2019 WC has been amazing. Hardly gets out early and looks so assured. No real weakness. India's MVP

Terrific half century by @imjadeja. Technique, temperament and grit to thwart testing bowling by Anderson and Robinson, batting cleverly with the tail to farm the strike, unafraid to open his shoulders for big shots

Ravindra Jadeja is not a No. 7. Surely not among the 22 currently playing this Test. #ENGvsIND
