India skipper Virat Kohli slammed his 27th half-century in Test matches and was the second highest run-scorer for his side in the first innings.

Team India skipper Virat Kohli became the fastest batsman in the history of the game to score 23,000 international runs. Kohli achieved the feat on the first day of the fourth Test against England at the Oval on Thursday, taking just 490 innings for the same.

Kohli overtook former Indian batsman and legend Sachin Tendulkar, who achieved the feat in 522 innings. Tendulkar is followed by former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting, who took 544 innings to achieve the milestone.
Kohli hasn't scored a century since 2019 but with two back-to-back fifties in the ongoing five-match series, the Indian captain has shown signs of getting back into the form and the consistency, which he is known for.
Kohli now has become only the seventh batsman to score 23,00 international runs after Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara, Rickey Ponting, Mahela Jayawardene, Jacques Kallis and Rahul Dravid.
Kohli was the second highest run-getter for his team after Shardul Thakur's whirlwind knock of 57 runs off just 36 balls as the vistirs were bowled out for just 191 after England opted to bowl first.
India didn't have a great start losing both three wickets for just 39 runs after which Kohli, Rahane and Thakur provided the much-needed contributions to get to a respectable total.
