In the worst defeat India has faced, skipper Virat Kohli's wicket was the talk of the town.

The captain was dismissed by Australia's Adam Zampa for the 4th time in the last year in Mumbai. He was caught by the spinner off his own bowling having just scored 16.

Kohli's dismissal in the 1st ODI happened to be the 6th instance of Zampa outfoxing him in international cricket.

The bowler has so far bowled a total of 97 balls to Kohli in ODIs, giving away 126 runs. He has dismissed Kohli twice in T20Is.

Talking about the dismissal, former Australia captain Steve Waugh - who was on commentary for Fox Cricket - blamed Kohli for not "showing Zampa enough respect".

"I just don’t think he’s showing Zampa enough respect and he paid the price", Waugh said on Tuesday.

However, the Indian skipper has on several occasions praised the wrist-spinner and even said the same this week for having "more belief than others".

"He was probably one bowler, who had more belief than others (on the 2019 tour) I felt," Kohli had said before the ODI series.

"Throughout the game, even when he was hit for boundaries, he kept coming at the batsmen and try and get them out, which I think is important for a wrist-spinner. And his mindset was a stand out for them in the last series.

"He's still skilful enough to make breakthroughs also, so we have to be respectful but at the same time have belief in our game to be able to play well against them."

As for the match, Kohli and Co. could not defend their below-par 255 total and were outplayed by the visitors in all three departments in Mumbai.

"We were totally outplayed in all departments. It's a strong Australian team, if you don't play well, they could hurt you. We saw that with the bat in hand. We didn't get enough runs. I thought we were too respectful at certain phases and it cost us. Can't do that against a team like Australia," Kohli said.
