The Indian Premier League 2019 will see a new team - Delhi Capitals. After being known as the Delhi Daredevils for the past decade, Delhi’s IPL team will now be called Delhi Capitals. The new name for the Indian Premier League's Delhi franchise was announced on Tuesday in a glitzy function in Delhi.

The owners of the team-GMR Group and JSW Sports-are made this major announcement. However,  there is already a team called 'Delhi Capitals' that plays in the UBA (basketball). 

According to reports JSW Sports - who bought a 50% stake in the franchise earlier this year - plan to revamp the franchise completely. 

"We wanted this name to mean something to each and everyone from Delhi," said Parth Jindal, the director at JSW Sports at the ceremony.

Besides a change in the name of the franchise, the logo and colour of the uniform will also be changed. Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting will continue as the coach and will be assisted by Mohammad Kaif. The Delhi franchise has realeased former captain Gautam Gambhir ahead of IPL 2019 auctions. Shikhar Dhawan will join the side for this edition.

Delhi are yet to win their maiden IPL title despite participating in all 11 editions. They finished at the bottom of the table in IPL 2018.
