The English captain who had scored a double ton in the first Test was sent back cheaply for 6 by the spinner. This marked Patel's maiden Test wicket.

Having Root as first Test victim must be really special as Patel looked all elated. The ball landed into one of those pits and it kicked up and turned away massively. Root, who was going again for the sweep, lost balance and offered a top edge to short fine leg. The field was perfectly set and it was a sitter for R Ashwin.

Day 2 of the second Test saw Rishabh Pant carrying on his good form as he smashed his way to his half-ton against England at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Rohit Sharma top-scored for the hosts in their first innings with 161, while Ajinkya Rahane (67) and Rishabh Pant (58 not out) struck half-centuries. Moeen Ali was the pick of the England bowlers, claiming 4-128, while Olly Stone returned 3-47.

India put on 329 runs on the board. England are 1-0 up in the four-test series having won the opening match by 227 runs.
