In a major development late on Monday, a majority of 10 directors (out of total 16) of Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) withdrew all the powers vested to president Rajat Sharma.

Sharma, who was voted to power in DDCA in July 2018, has been facing revolt for alleged ill treatment meted out to some directors. The issue snowballed into a major controversy during an Indian Premier League game against Mumbai Indians recently when three or four directors were denied food for not wearing the prerequisite arm bands.

Sharma has been having a running feud with secretary Vinod Tihara ever since he took office. That was the reason why Tihara, who played major role in Sharma's victory in elections over rival group led by CK Khanna (acting BCCI president), was not just suspended but was even denied entry into DDCA.

Tihara, however, got relief from the court and was waiting for an appropriate time to hit back.

All those — vice-president Rakesh Bansal and treasurer Rajan Manchanda — who stood behind Sharma during Tihara's suspension, are now the signatories of this DDCA board resolution.

"Resolved that powers to the president that was accorded to him on 02/07/2018 by the Board of Directors for day to day running of affairs is withdrawn and all the decisions will be taken by the apex council. We further resolve that we passed this resolution by circulation considering the urgency of the matter and may be placed at the next apex council for taking note of," the resolution stated.

Incidentally, the resolution has not been signed by former India opener and now a government nominee Gautam Gambhir. DDCA cricket director Sanjay Bhardwaj, who had gone on indefinite hunger strike last August against the "dictatorial attitude and functioning" of Sharma, is now leading the fight.

The others to sign the resolution are Vinod Tihara, Renu Khanna, Alok Mittal, Apurv Jain, Nitin Gupta, SN Sharma and Sudhir Agarwal.

"DDCA president has no time to devote to cricketing activities. He is running it like a family business and has left the day-to-day functioning to only two close aides who are treating all directors with disdain," said Tihara.

COO terminated

The board also passed a resolution for removal of Chief Operations Officer (COO) GR Saxena with immediate effect.

"The services of COO GR Saxena be terminated with immediate effect from today (Monday) and his dues may be settled as per contract. All the legal formalities be completed to give effect to this resolution. Henceforth, the work of COO shall be looked after by CFO PC Vaish till further instructions in addition to his own duties. He shall not be entitled to receive any extra remuneration for this," the resolution stated.

The DDCA is registered as a company with the Registrar of Companies. And a petition was recently filed in Supreme Court amicus curie that "president has illegally made changes in the memorandum of articles to rest all powers with him to convene any meeting".

The group of 10 has now sought legal opinion over whether it can summon the meeting on May 1 to ratify the same. Meanwhile, it has been learnt that television personality Sharma is busy with his election-related professional commitment.
