Coronavirus: Harbhajan Singh pledges to provide ration to 5,000 families amid COVID-19 lockdown

In light of the heightened concern on the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in India, the country has been placed under complete lockdown for 21 days from March 24. Authorities have asked citizens to maintain strict social distancing to cut the spread of the virus outbreak.

India cricketer Harbhajan Singh has pledged to distribute ration to 5,000 families along with his wife Geeta Basra as India continues their fight against the novel coronavirus outbreak.

Harbhajan took to social media and posted a few pictures along with a message to confirm the news.

"By the blessings of the Almighty, Geeta and I pledge to distribute ration to 5000 families residing in Jalandhar, who are struggling to feed their families during these difficult times," Singh's post read.

"We will continue to help and support our fellow citizens in whichever way we can to lessen the burden of struggle. Stay safe, stay in and stay positive," he added.

The virus has brought all sports activities to a halt and players are practising social distancing and self-isolation during the pandemic. The World Health Organisation (WHO) and the governments all around are urging people to stay at home.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), there are 3940 confirmed cases of coronavirus cases in the country and 95 fatalities have been reported.
