Indian batsman KL Rahul managed to score only 101 runs from 4 innings in the Test series against West Indies and not just cricket fans but even selectors are losing patience.

With Prithvi Shaw suspended for a doping violation, Rahul and Mayank Agarwal opened the innings in the Caribbeans. However, in all the four innings, the two failed to give India a good start.

KL scored 44 and 38 but failed to convert them in the first Test and his form further worsened in the second Test where he managed to score only 13 and 6. Now according to Mumbai Mirror, Rahul is all set to face the axe.

India chief selector MSK Prasad addressed concerns over Rahul's poor performance and indicated that it may be time to get Rohit Sharma as an opener in the five-day format.

The Hitman has 3 ODI double hundreds and 4 T20I hundreds but is yet to seal a permanent berth in the Test team. He was part of the Test squad but did not get a chance to play.

The batsman was seen as a middle-order option, however, Hanuma Vihari cemented the No. 6 spot with his sensational batting performances in the Caribbean.

As for the South African series, Rahul may reportedly make way for Rohit at the top of the order. Vihari and Ajinkya Rahane will settle down well in the middle-order.

The team has not really managed to find a reliable opening pair in the last few years and will have high hopes from its senior player.

India next play South Africa at home in a three-match T20I series, which will be followed by three Tests. The Test squad is yet to be announced.
