Former West Indies cricketer Darren Sammy has revealed that the murder of George Floyd, an African-American man, in the US at the hands of a white man affected him in numerous ways.

He also claimed that the unfortunate event forced him to think about how racism was also prevalent in cricket.

Following Floyd's death, which spared a massive 'Black Lives Matter' movement all across the world, the former Windies skipper has been talking about the presence of racism in cricket and also shared his own experience of facing racism.

Speaking about the event, Sammy said it all about people in power suppressing the ones who are less fortunate.

"The Kneeling on this guy's neck brought so many scenarios to me. The symbol itself, I saw it as the people in power suffocating those who are less fortunate," Sammy said in a recent episode of Inside Out.

The 36-year-old then went to speak on the topic of how former Australian pacers Jeffrey Robert Thomson and Dennis Lillee, one of the most ruthless fast bowlers in the history of Test cricket, was widely renowned for hurting batsmen with their deadly bowling.

However, when the Windies bowlers were bowling similar bouncers to upset the opposition batsmen, rules got introduced in the sport, which as per Sammy were to limited the triumph of the bowlers.

"Looking at the Fire in Babylon, looking at when Thomson and Lillee and all these guys were bowling quick and hurting people," he said.

"Then I watch a black team becoming so dominant and then you see the bouncer rule start to come in and all these things start to come in and I take it, as I understand it, as this is just trying to the success of a black team could have. I might be wrong but that's how I see it. And the system should not allow that," he added.
