Heavy rains may disrupt the highly anticipated Asia Cup Group A match between India and Pakistan at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium near Kandy, Sri Lanka. The region has been experiencing heavy rainfall for the past two days, which could potentially dampen the spirits of cricket fans.
It is worth noting that Sri Lanka typically witnesses heavy rains during the August-September period, leading the country's cricket board to avoid scheduling games during these months. In fact, out of the 33 One Day Internationals (ODIs) played at the Pallekele stadium, only three have been scheduled during this time frame. The decision to hold the Asia Cup matches in Sri Lanka was made after the Indian team was denied permission to travel to Pakistan by the government.
According to AccuWeather.com, Kandy has a high probability of receiving 94 percent precipitation during the match, with a 27 percent chance of thunderstorms. Additionally, there will be a significant 97 percent cloud cover throughout the game.
What happens if India vs Pakistan match is washed out?
In the event of rain affecting the India vs Pakistan match, it is necessary for both teams to complete a minimum of 20 overs for the result to be considered valid. If the team batting second experiences delays or interruptions and is unable to complete their full quota of overs, the score of the team batting first will be multiplied by a percentage factor corresponding to the number of overs to be bowled to the team batting second.
In the unfortunate circumstance of the match being abandoned due to rain, both teams will be awarded points, regardless of the stage of the game or their previous records. In this scenario, Pakistan will secure a spot in the Super 4 Stage, as they have already triumphed over Nepal in the first game held in Multan on August 30. However, India will need to defeat Nepal in the subsequent match at Pallekele on September 4.
