Indian Captain Virat Kohli, after a grueling, tour of UK, was given rest and in his absence, Rohit Sharma was made the captain of the Indian team for the ongoing Asia Cup in the UAE.

Under the leadership of Rohit, who has totally led from the front with the bat, India have qualified for the final and now their opponents are yet to be decided. The winner of the next match between Afghanistan and Bangladesh will play India in the final on Friday at the Dubai International Stadium.

In India’s match against Pakistan on Sunday, batting first Pakistan managed only 237 runs, courtesy of yet another gutsy knock from their senior-most player Shoaib Malik, who scored a 90-ball 78. In reply, the Indian openers, Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan put no foot wrong as they scored a century each and shared an opening stand of 210 runs before Dhawan ran himself out.

India clinched an easy nine-wicket victory as Dhawan was declared the Player of the Match for his better strike-rate and higher score than his captain.

Meanwhile, Kohli who is spending some quality time with his family had gone out for dinner with his family to his restaurant in New Delhi. Just after India’s win, the Indian skipper twitted congratulating his boys for the excellent all-round show in Dubai.

“Well done boys. What a joy to watch. Great win for us. Onwards and upwards #INDvPAK #AsiaCup2018,” Kohli tweeted from his official account.

Also, Rohit’s unbeaten knock of 111 turned out to be even more special because he reached the landmark of 7,000 ODI runs and became only the ninth Indian to do so after Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni, Kohli, Mohammad Azharuddin, Yuvraj Singh, and Virender Sehwag.

While Hashim Amla was the fastest to reach the 7,000-landmark, who took only 150 innings to get there, Kohli stood second when he entered the 7,000-club in 161 innings.

Meanwhile, Rohit has bettered the record of the Indian legends like Tendulkar, Dhoni, and others to become the third fastest Indian batsman (181 innings) and overall, fifth, to have scored 7,000 and more international runs in the 50-over format. Second fastest Indian batsman to reach 7,000 ODI runs still remains Ganguly (174 innings).

However, in terms of the number of years taken to get to the landmark, Indian captain Kohli is well ahead of others. He accumulated 7,000 ODI runs in just seven years and 152 days, while Amla took nine years and 81 days and Rohit 11 years and 92 days.
