The COVID-19 scare on the Indian team is deepening as after the wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant, a member of the team's support staff has tested positive for the coronavirus. According to a report in The Indian Express, three coaching assistants have been put in isolation after the staff member tested positive.
The said four members of the staff will not travel to Durham with the rest of the Indian contingent where they will be playing a three-day warm-up game starting Wednesday, July 20. The players are set to reassemble after a 20-day break post the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
The reports suggested that a mail from the BCCI secretary Jay Shah had categorically mentioned that the players should avoid going to the Wimbledon and the Euro, the sporting action which had been taking place in the UK in the last few weeks.
While Rishabh Pant and pacer Jasprit Bumrah had visited the Euro 2020 games, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and head coach Ravi Shastri had visited Wimbledon.
With the recent COVID-19 scare in England, which affected the Eoin Morgan-led side and seven members of the squad had tested positive, the BCCI secretary had sent a mail to the Indian contingent warning of the recent rise in cases in the country and to avoid going to crowded places.
According to a report in ESPN Cricinfo, Rishabh Pant has been affected by the Delta variant of the coronavirus, which has caused the recent rise in cases.
