Ahead of the fifth and final Test against England at the Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester, a member of the Team India support staff tested positive for COVID-19. This led to Team India's training session for Thursday afternoon being cancelled and all members underwent testing before they can take the field.
So, what is the result and will the Manchester Test go on as scheduled? Surely this whole episode would have created panic in the Indian camp, and as per the latest development, the whole Indian team returned with negative RT-PCR Tests on Thursday (September 9).
However, following ongoing conversations with the BCCI, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that the fifth Test at Emirates Old Trafford, due to start today, has been cancelled.
"Due to fears of a further increase in the number of COVID cases inside the camp, India are regrettably unable to field a team," the statement by ECB read.
Following ongoing conversations with the BCCI, the ECB can confirm that the fifth LV= Insurance Test at Emirates Old Trafford, due to start today, will be cancelled.

Earlier, talks about postponing the fifth and final Test were on as both boards were in talks to explore when the match could start. The match was thrown in doubt after India physiotherapist Yogesh Parmar had tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Wednesday.
"NO PLAY TODAY," commentator and former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik tweeted.

The core main support staff group - including head coach Ravi Shastri, bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Shrishar - who are in isolation have not travelled with the team to Manchester for the final Test. Batting coach Vikram Rathour is the only senior support staff with the team.
Meanwhile, India are currently having a 2-1 lead in the five-match series and they won't mind registering another win.
