Years after holding MS Dhoni responsible for his son's early retirement, Yograj Singh has made a significant U-turn and now praises the former India captain.
Yuvraj Singh's father, Yograj Singh, has suddenly changed his mind about MS Dhoni. Yograj has already blasted Dhoni for allegedly cutting short his son's international cricket career. However, in a recent interview on Unfiltered by Samdish, he praised the former captain, noting his daring approach to the game.
Yograj, a former Indian cricketer, is now 66 years old and coaches young cricket talents. He is known for his intense personality and has previously declared that he will never forgive MS Dhoni. However, during the conversation with Samdish, Yograj demonstrated a more reconciliatory side, praising Dhoni's strategic abilities on the field.
“I find Dhoni as a very motivated captain, who can tell people what to do. The best thing about Dhoni was that he could read the wicket can tell bowlers where to bowl,” Yograj Singh said on 'Unfiltered by Samdish', a YouTube show.

“What I liked the most about him was that he was a fearless men. If you remember in Australia, he was hit on the grill my Mitchell Johnson and he didn’t moved a bit, he stood there and next ball he pulled him for a six. Aise log kaafi kam hote hai (There are very few people like him),” he said.
In a 2024 interview with Zee, Yograj Singh stated that he will never forgive MS Dhoni. The tearful father blamed Dhoni for his son's early withdrawal from cricket.
“I won’t forgive MS Dhoni. He should look at his face in the mirror. He is a very big cricketer, but what he has done against my son, everything is coming out now; it can never be forgiven in life.
“I have never done two things in life—first, I have never forgiven anybody who has done wrong for me, and second, I have never hugged them in my life, be it my family members or my kids.”
Yograj believes Yuvraj might have continued to play for several years after recovering from cancer. Unfortunately, this was not achievable because he was dropped from the Indian squad by MS Dhoni and then by Virat Kohli.
“That man (MS Dhoni) has destroyed the life of my son, who could have played four to five years more,” he said.
