AB de Villiers lauds 'legend' Zimbabwe's Brendan Taylor, who calls time on his magnificent career

Zimbabwe batsman and former skipper Brendan Taylor has announced his retirement from international cricket as he played his last game for his country in the third ODI against Ireland. Former South Africa batsman AB de Villiers congratulated Taylor on a magnificent career saying, "You’re a legend my friend! Well done on a great career on and off the field!"

Taylor, who made his debut for Zimbabwe in 2004 went on to represent his country in 34 Test matches, 205 ODIs and 44 T20 internationals scoring 2320, 6684 and 859 runs respectively as became one of the greatest cricketers to play for Zimbabwe.

Taylor, in his 17-year career became the second-highest run-getter for Zimbabwe, while playing the third most matches and scoring the most number fo centuries for a player from the country.

In a statement issued on Twitter, Taylor wrote, "It's taught me to humble, to always remind myself how lucky I was to be in the position I was in for so long. To wear the badge with pride and leave everything on the field.

"My goal was to always leave the team in better position as to when I first arrived back in 2004 , I hope I have done that," Taylor added.

Taylor thanked Zimbabwe Cricket for giving him the opportunity and also to all the players and the coaches he has played alongside and under, respectively and lastly thanked his parents, friends and wife and four children.

"Finally to my wife @tkellyanne and our four beautiful boy's (sic). You have meant everything to me on this journey and it wouldn't have been possible without you. "No more airport heartaches. I look forward to our next chapter. I love you all very much," Taylor further added.
