'150-odd was an easy chase but...': RR skipper Sanju Samson rues early wickets after loss to Delhi

Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson rued the loss of early wickets in the powerplay after his side's 33-run loss against the Delhi Capitals in Match No 36 of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) reckoning that the target of 155 runs was an easy chase.

The Royals lost both the openers, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Liam Livingstone and middle-order batter David Miller inside the first five overs as they were 17/3 and the onus was entirely on Samson to make a match of it as one of the heroes of the last match., Mahipal Lomror too went after scoring 19 runs.

Asked after the game if the target was gettable, Samson said, "Yeah absolutely. Looking at the wicket and the conditions, the way we bowled and having that total of 150 with the quality of batters we have, I thought it was actually an easy chase but we kept on losing too many wickets, so never had the momentum to go after the bowling actually."

Samson himself played a valiant knock of 70* runs off just 53 balls but got no support from any of the other batters as the Royals could score just 121 runs in their 20 overs and suffered their fifth loss of the season.

Samson said that with the batting line-up they have (power batters at the top), top-order collapses are bound to happen but was hopeful that they will improve on this aspect and come back stronger in two days' time against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

While the Capitals reached the top of the table with eight wins in 10 games, the Royals' campaign witnessed a setback but they still have destiny in their won hands as they will have to win four out of remaining five games.
