Chasing a target of 238 runs, Pakistan lost its first wicket in the third over of their inning. Fakhar Zaman (9) was dismissed by Trent Boult. Fakhar looked to loft the ball over midwicket, but he just managed a leading edge, handing a simple catch to Martin Guptill.
In a must-win match, Pakistan came out all guns blazing with the ball as they reduced New Zealand to 46/4 inside 13 overs. Martin Guptill (5), Colin Munro (12), Ross Taylor (3), and Tom Latham (1) all failed to leave a mark. Guptill was dismissed by Mohammad Amir whereas Shaheen Shah Afridi took the key wickets of Munro and Taylor.
Pakistan will next take on Afghanistan on June 29 whereas New Zealand will face Australia on the same date.

1. 'Babar is class'
What a player this Babar Azam is. Still coming of age and already, by some distance, Pakistan's best batsman. And the selection of Haris Sohail is a game-changer.

Shaheen Afridi's 10-3-28-3 is the most economical spell by a Pakistan fast bowler in World Cups since Wasim Akram's 2-27 in Manchester in 1999. #CWC19

Babar Azam has faced criticism about not taking his team home in the past and leading them to victories. Today he will have silenced some of his critics with a superb century under great pressure and on a difficult wicket against a very good bowling attack #CWC19 #NZvPAK

2. 'History will repeat itself'
2019 #Pak is performing / looking eerily similar to 1992's. Only way to stop them reach SF and onwards winning(!!) #CWC19 is one of their next two matches gets rained out, get 1 point and out they go.That would be game, set & match and they book their return home tickets.#PAKvNZ

Point table has opened now with @Blackcaps loss. 2 tough games ahead both for #NZ & for #Eng & not so much tough games remaining for #Pak I think #NZvEng & #PakvBan will pretty much decide the semi finalist for this #cwc19 . @skysportnz @radiosportnz @Sdoull @ICC @wasimakramlive

Well, I guess all #Indian cricket fans owe a big deal of gratitude to the #Pakistan cricket team. By defeating #NewZealand, this has left #India as the only unbeaten team in all the competition. #CWC19 #NZLvPAK #Pak #NZ #PakvsNZ

What a great win for #Pakistan moves them up in the table level points with #Bangladesh and its getting close at the top. So it's still anyones game and if #Pak win there remaining games they would have a chance to qualify for top 4. #NZvPAK #CWC19
