A cricket Wold Cup advertisement by a Pakistani channel featuring a spoof using IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman lookalike as a prop has not gone down well with the Twitterati back home, many of whom have termed the "mocking" act "cheap" and "shameful".

The advertisement latches on to the conversation the IAF pilot had with the Pakistani side in captivity after his MiG-21 Bison was downed during an aerial dogfight on February 27 after the Balakot airstrike. While a lot of water has flown into the bridge one Twitter user, had the perfect reply to the Pakistani ad. Twitter user Dr Gill 2.0 shows the ad as aired by Pakistan, but with a twist ending. At the time of writing, the spoof had over 13,000 views. Funnily, Twitter seems to think that the harmless rebuttal is ‘insensitive’ and appears to have shadow banned it.

The video released by Pakistan had gone viral in which Varthaman could be seen replying -- 'I'm sorry, I am not supposed to tell you this' to the questions asked to him during captivity.

The match between India and Pakistan is slated to take place on June 16 as part of the ICC World Cup 2019 being hosted by England.

In the advertisement, Varthaman lookalike character, sporting his trademark gunsliger moustache style, can be seen repeating 'I'm sorry, I am not supposed to tell you this' in response to questions asked about the match.

The character, wearing a blue jersey, is also holding a white tea cup.

2. 'Shameful for Pak to mock'

Another user, @Pavanmahaveer1, wrote, "Atleast Keep that coffee cup safe, as you guys cannot handle World Cup. #abhinandan." "#Abhinandan Pakisthan have not deserved to mock abhinandan. Pak struggling to play wc. India have indomitable player," tweeted, @OmPraka09914564.

"Pakistan Admits the only Cup they can win is this 'Tea Cup' #Abhinandan #MoukaMouka," tweeted another user @hellopravi.

Tennis star Sania Mirza on Wednesday slammed the "cringeworthy" TV advertisements hyping the much-awaited World Cup match between India and Pakistan.
The advertisement war in run-up to the Sunday's clash between the arch-rivals, has heated up with TV channels in both the countries putting out despicable ads.

Pakistan's Jazz TV has produced an ad, which features a character who is seen mimicking Indian Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, captured by the Pakistani military a day after the Balakot airstrike.

The 33 seconds ad shows a model in a blue India jersey, sporting Varthaman's trademark mustache. He is seen repeating Abhinandan's viral remarks, "I'm sorry, I am not supposed to tell you this" to the questions asked on India's strategy for the match.

India's Star TV, on the other hand, has been running an ad where an Indian supporter describes himself as Pakistan's "abbu" (father), referring to India's domination over their rivals in the World Cup.

"Cringeworthy ads on both sides of the border, seriously guys, you don't need to 'hype up' or market the match anymore specially with rubbish! it has ENOUGH attention already! It's only cricket for God sake, and if you think it's anymore than that then get a grip or get a life !!," Sania wrote on her twitter handle.

Tension escalated between India and Pakistan after the Pulwama terror attack in which 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed on February 14.
