Many fans turned up at Delhi's Feroz Shah Kotla to bid farewell to Gautam Gambhir.
Gautam Gambhir said goodbye to cricket with his final outing for the Delhi side in their Ranji Trophy match against Andhra on Sunday. Gambhir, who had declared his intention to retire after this match, signed off in style with a hundred in his final first-class match.
Gambhir did not get to retire with a win as Delhi ended with three points after a draw. However, the result was hardly on anybody's mind as the match was all about Gambhir's final day in first-class cricket.
Many fans turned up in Delhi's Feroz Shah Kotla to bid farewell to one of India's best opening batsmen. Fans greeted Gambhir with garlands and posed for photographs with him. Gambhir's family was also present to mark the ocassion.
Earlier, Gambhir was given 'Guard of Honour' by Andhra players when he came out to bat. After his last innings, Delhi players gave a him a 'Guard of Honour' while the spectators gave a standing ovation and the entire Andhra team came up to congratulate him.
Gautam Gambhir had categorically rejected rumours around him joining politics but the former India opener indicated he was open to coaching at the big stage.
