Another season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) beckons and after the eight teams announced their releases and retentions before the new season, 61 players are set to get bids against their names in the upcoming auction, to be held next week in Chennai.

While many Indian uncapped and a few experienced players will be up for grabs, the franchises will be vying for some of the best international players who have registered their names for the auction. Let's look at a few of the overseas players, who have performed consistently at the international level and the leagues around the world, but still haven't been able to make a cut in the IPL and the 2021 auction could be just the one for them.

1. Dawid Malan

The No 1 T20 batsman in the World, is still yet to feature in probably the best T20 league around in the sport. It is surprising for many that Dawid Malan still hasn't played in the IPL, however, his exploits in international cricket for England. Malan has amassed 855 runs in 19 T20Is averaging 53.44 and striking at 149.48. Malan, also recently featured in the Big Bash League (BBL) for the Hobart Hurricanes and his ability to play in both gears could lead him to make a debut in the 2021 season. (Image: BBL)

2. Kyle Jamieson

The 6.5 feet tall Kiwi fast bowler Kyle Jamieson has taken the world by storm in his first international season playing for New Zealand. Jamieson, made his debut in all three formats last year and his express pace, bounce and accuracy could be a huge weapon for the side that picks the 26-year old to play for them. While he has just played a handful of games in the limited-overs, his exploits in the Test matches have been far more superior as in just 6 games, he has picked 36 wickets at an average of 13.28. 3. Marnus Labuschagne

The 26-year old Australian all-rounder has recently seen some outstanding success in the shortest format playing for the Brisbane Heat in the BBL. Marnus Labuschagne, who is the first-choice player for Australia in Tests, played for the Heat in the latter half of the tournament and in the six games he played, he scored 176 runs averaging 29.33 and with the ball, he took 10 wickets at an average of 14.6. Labuschagne could prove to be a surprise star for any side who picks him, given he gives value in all three departments. (Image: BBL)

4. Cameron Green

The 21-year rising star of Australian cricket, who has been revered as probably the best they have had since Ricky Ponting could be an outstanding option for the sides given he gives value with both bat and ball and in the field. Green, who made his debut in ODIs and Tests against India in the recent series, bowls a heavy bowl and is a big hitter with the bat. His innings of 84 against India at the SCG showed everyone what he can do when he uses the long handle and thus, batting at No 6/7 and bowling 2-3 overs, he could be a very good pick for the franchises. 5. Jhye Richardson

Jhye Richardson, the Australian right-arm pacer is touted to be one of the biggest buys in the upcoming auction. With a number of teams eyeing a quality overseas fast bowler, Richardson ticks the box every time. Winner of the golden arm in the recent BBL with 29 wickets, Richardson is also handy with the bat and his outstanding form could work in his favour as the auction arrives next week. (Image: BBL)
