IPL 2020 in UAE: Franchises anxiously wait for today's Governing Council meeting outcome

Following the postponement of the T20 World Cup by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday, IPL is now set to be held during the window of September 19 to November 10.

Meanwhile, IPL's Governing Council Chairman Brijesh Patel had already confirmed that BCCI has sent the acceptance letter to the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB).

"Yes, we have sent the acceptance letter to the ECB and both the boards will be working together from now on to stage the tournament," Khaleej Times quoted Patel as saying.  

As per multiple reports, every match at the IPL 2020 in UAE will kickoff at 7:30 PM IST with the final being played on November 10.

There are also reports claiming that the UAE government will be exploring the idea of conducting the matches with 30-50% crowd attendance inside the stadium.

The nation is predicting that the COVID-19 cases in UAE will come down massively by the time they host the IPL 13.  

Today afternoon's marathon meeting will also be attended by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly, alongside key GC members to finalize the last details about the cash-rich tournament.

 

Other key points like COVID-19 protocols and in match restrictions will also be on the agenda during today's meeting.

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is reportedly planning to set up a preparatory camp ahead of the 13th edition of the tournament from early August.

 

According to ESPNcricinfo's latest reports, CSK has asked MS Dhoni and Co. have been asked to report to Chennai first, after which they will be leaving for Dubai via a charter flight only after approval from the Indian government.

CSK also has the oldest squad in the IPL and thus are looking for a month's preparation ahead of the tournament opener.

As per numerous news reports, ECB had sent the proposal to the BCCI in April to host the 2020 season of the IPL, which was originally set to take place on March 29 in India.

It was earlier being reported that the 51-day tournament maybe gets extended to a 54-day encounter.

 

According to TOI reports, the official broadcaster of the IPL did express their hesitation over the 'constricted scheduling', looking to make a maximum profit of the Diwali week.

 

If the proposition gets the green light during the General Council meeting, this will become the first time ever that the IPL final will not be taking place on a Sunday (November 10 - Tuesday).
