Mumbai Indians (MI): 132/4 after 18.3 overs

Chennai Super Kings (CSK): 131/4 after 20 overs

Chennai Super Kings won the toss and decided to bat first. CSK didn't get off to a good start, losing three wickets in the Powerplay. Rahul Chahar struck on the first ball of his spell as Faf du Plessis (6) cut one straight to the fielder at backward point in the third over of the match.

Suresh Raina's (5) attempt to slog Jayant Yadav resulted in a skier which the bowler took with ease.  Shane Watson (10) fell going for a big hit off Krunal Pandya, taken brilliantly by Jayant Yadav running backwards from his mid-on position. Murali Vijay attempted to consolidate before being stumped by Quinton de Kock off Rahul Chahar for 26.

MS Dhoni hit the first six of the match in the 14th over lofting Jayant over long-on. He then smashed Lasith Malinga for two huge sixes in the penultimate over to provide impetus to the CSK innings, which was stymied by the MI bowlers, especially the spinners.

Dhoni (37 no off 29 balls) and Ambati Rayudu (42 no off 37 balls) added 66 off 48 balls for the fifth wicket as CSK reached 131 for 4.
