India vs England 5th Test: 5 things to look forward to ahead of Day 4

Alastair Cook, who is batting for the very last time for England, will aim to convert this start into a memorable knock. He is also 30 runs away from surpassing Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and becoming the highest run-scorer in Test cricket among the left-handers. PC: Reuters

At stumps of Day three, England had two of their best batsmen at the crease – Cook and Joe Root. The hosts with a lead of 154 runs will want to extend it further and for doing so, they will want their captain to lead from the front. While Virat Kohli, who is the leading run scorer of the ongoing five-Test series, has led India from the front with the bat, Root has not managed to replicate that. PC: AFP

In all the Tests so far this series, England’s tail-ender batsmen have frustrated India every single time. While players Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes have mastered the art of batting with the lower-order, the likes of Sam Curran and Adil Rashid and Stuart Broad have managed to score some crucial runs towards the end, that have gone on to hurt India in the end result. Ravindra Jadeja, who was ignored for the first four Tests, was finally picked for the final one and in no time he began to justify his selection. He first bagged four wickets in the first innings followed by top-scoring in India’s innings with his crucial knock of 86 runs off 156 balls. India’s Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Ishant Shama have been at their best throughout this series and India will be desperate for them to deliver again on Monday. A positive result will get far away if England manage to score a 250-plus lead. PC: PTI
