India vs Australia (IND vs AUS) 2nd ODI: India kept their nerves under control as they beat Australia in a last-over thriller by 8 runs in Nagpur on Tuesday to take a 2-0 lead in the ongoing ODI series.
Vijay Shankar, India's sixth bowling option, took two wickets in the space of three balls as Australia were all out for 242 chasing 251 in the second one-day international.
Marcus Stoinis and Alex Carey seemed to have brough Australia at the verge of victory before Kuldeep Yadav sent back. Some excellent death bowling by Jasprit Bumrah, including two wickets in two balls, kept India in contention before Shankar removed Marcus Stoinis (52) on the first ball of the final over. He then bowled Adam Zampa on the third ball to win the match for India- their 500th ODI victory.
Earlier, skipper Virat Kohli's resolute 40th hundred under pressure steered India to a competitive 250 despite a middle-order collapse in the second One-day International, here Tuesday.
Kohli got a good ally in Vijay Shankar (46 off 41) with whom he added 81 runs for the fourth wicket but the latter was unfortunately run out when he backed up too far at the non-striker's end to a Kohli straight drive.
Australia's spin troika of Adam Zampa (2/62 in 10 overs), Glenn Maxwell (1/45 in 10 overs) and Nathan Lyon (1/42 in 10 overs) bowled well in the middle obvers although it was Pat Cummins who had the best figures of 4 for 29.
Australia: 242 after 49.3 overs (Marcus Stoinis 52, Peter Handscomb 48, Vijay Shankar 2/15)
India: 250 after 48.2 overs (Virat Kohli 116, Vijay Shankar 46, Pat Cummins 4/29)
