India vs Australia, 2nd ODI: Live scores and full commentary

Hardik Pandya's sudden suspension on disciplinary grounds has badly affected the balance of the batting order, which was apparent during team's 34-run defeat in the opening match despite vice-captain Rohit Sharma's 22nd hundred in 50-over format.

Dhoni's 51 off 96 balls and failing to rotate the strike has brought to focus the rejigging that skipper Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri will have to fret upon.

With Dhoni being slotted at No 5 even though vice-captain Rohit wants the veteran to bat a notch higher but cues from India's training session made it clear that the team is unlikely to tinker with the batting order.

TOSS: India put to bowl first

Aussie skipper Aaron Finch wins the toss, opts to bat in the 2nd ODI at the Adelaide Oval.

"We are gonna bat first mate. Looks like a good wicket to bat, don't think it'll change much throughout. We played a really good game the other day. I think it's a good chance to put some pressure on with a good score. It's always good to play against a world class outfit and improve as a team leading into the next phase of the year," Finch said.

Meanwhile, even Virat Kohli wanted to bat first had he won the toss. "We would have batted first as well, looks a great wicket to play on. The conditions are going to be a big factor for us as it's hot and humid. We were a bit scratchy at Sydney, just to get the one side together. We can't take Australia lightly in Australia. We like to be in these situations where we get to bounce back as a team. Mohammad Siraj makes his debut today, Khaleel Ahmed makes way for him," the Indian skipper said.

The First six overs have gone and Australia have not managed to get going, thanks to tight bowling from the pacers Bhuvi and Shami from both the ends. from his three overs, Bhuvi has given just three runs so far, while Shami 11 from as many overs. Australia need to keep the scorecard ticking in order to get under pressure because that could force mistakes out of them and that's exactly what India want. PC: PTI

The tight bowling from both the ends did the job for India. Bhuvi angled one delivery into the batsman and as under pressure Finch tries to smash it over the bowler's head, he only manages an inside edge that lands on the stumps. Blow for the Aussies, yet another failure from their skipper. PC: Twitter

Two wickets in two overs and the Australians have both their openers back into the pavilion. Not the start they would have wanted. After Finch, Carey goes. In the previous ball, he smashes Shami for an elegant boundary as he punches one through the gap of covers. A clever Shami bowls a short ball next, a tempted charged up Carey confidently goes for the pull but a top edge lobs towards Dhawan at short mid-wicket. We have the first thigh-five of the day! 9. Khawaja, Marsh stablise AUS innings

Khawaja, Marsh stablise AUS innings
9/24

In the previous match, Khawaja and Marsh shared a 92-run stand after they lost the openers early in the innings. It has repeated in the second match as Marsh and Khawaja bring up a 50-run stand after their openers once again failed to give the desired start. Both the batsmen have shown immense responsibility and have not shown any intention of going after anything and everything. Whenever the Indians have bowled a loose ball, the Aussie batsmen have punished them.

Kuldeep comes to bowl the 19th over as he begins with a single and a dot and Khwaja is at the strike for the third ball. Khawaja pushes one to point and hesitantly runs for a single. Jadeja moves across quickly and shoots a one-handed throw straight to the stumps on the bowler's end. A lazy Khawaja does not dive and eventually falls short of the crease. Jadeja never fails to impress on the field, such moments make him easily one of the best fielders of the current era.

11. Fifty for Shaun Marsh!

In the fourth delivery of the 24th over, Marsh smashes Jadeja straight down the ground for a boundary. The next ball, he nudges away to deep square leg for a single and brings up his 14th half-century in the ODIs. Back-to-back fifties for the southpaw after a terrible Test series. This will help him maintain his confidence on a high and that's good news for the Aussies as Marsh has been their best in the 50-over format in recent times. PC: Twitter

OUT!

In the 28th over, Jadeja bowled one outside off to temp Peter Handscomb for a big hit. Getting carried away with the momentum, the Aussie attempted a slog-sweep but missed the contact. As he swung his bat, he dragged his foot outside the line and Dhoni behind the wickets finished the rest of the formalities and gifted Jadeja the must deserving wicket for the consistency he has shown on Tuesday.

7th ODI ton: Take a bow, Shaun Marsh!
13/24

In the 41st over, bowled by Kuldeep Yadav, Maxwell was on the strike, who pulls the short ball fine of the deep backward square and quickly take three runs to give Shaun Marsh the strike. Another short delivery from Kuldeep, this time Marsh cuts it through point. There is a dive in the deep but not good enough to save those four runs. Marsh moves to 99. DOT. Kuldeep bowls one outside off, Marsh dances down and pushes it to pass long-off. That's a well deserving century for Marsh. He removes his helmet, raises his bat and the Adelaide crowd warmly gives him standing ovation. What an innings this has been for Marsh. His 7th ton overall and second against India. He now has three centuries in his last 6 innings and speaks volumes of his consistency with the bat in the 50-over format. He will want to replicate that in the red-ball game as well.

Australia lost Marcus Stoinis earlier. He was caught behind for 29.

14. Oh, dear, Siraj!

Oh, dear, Siraj!

It's not the day Siraj, who is making his ODI debut today, would have wanted it to be. In the 44th over, when Maxwell is given out for LBW, Siraj celebrates his maiden ODI wicket before the joy ends soon. Maxwell takes his chances, asks for a review. According to the ball tracking, it is going down the leg side. maxwell survives, who smashes Siraj for a boundary in the very next over; takes a single and Shaun Marsh ends the over with a boundary as well.

Wow! Bhuvi comes in rescue, dismisses Marsh, Maxi

Marsh and Maxwell were charging all over the par against every bowler who bowled and Kohli and Co were desperate to break the stand in order to restrict the hosts inside 300. Bhuvneshwar does the job for his skipper. He comes to bowl the 48th over and dismisses both the batsmen in an identical manner. Bhuvi bowls a slower delivery to Maxwell, who goes after it to only get caught by DK at long-off. A simple catch.

A delivery later, another slower ball to Marsh, who like Maxwell goes after it to give an easy catch to Jadeja on the other side of the ground at same position long-off. There have been questions over Bhuvi off later regarding his form but today, by making these two breakthroughs in the death overs, he has shown the worth of experience and how crucial it is for a team.

After an exceptional performance from Shaun Marsh, who recorded his 7th ODI ton, and Glenn Maxwell, Australia were restricted inside 300 and the Indian bowlers must be credited for their effort in the death overs. Bhuvi made two crucial breakthroughs in the 48th over - the wickets of Maxwell and Marsh - but he was hit for a four and a six by Nathan Lyon in the final over that earned the hosts 12 runs to end the innings.

Indian bowlers managed to restrict the Aussies under 300 and it is a great chance for the Indians to win the match and stay alive in the three-match series. OUT! Behrendorff draws first blood as he breaks the opening stand with the wicket of Shikhar Dhawan in the eighth over. Dhawan was looking good, looked to be attacking right from the beginning and he gets carried away and ends up giving an easy catch to Khawaja at mid-off. Meanwhile, India bring up their first 50 runs. Virat Kohli is the new man in, joins last match's centurion, Rohit, in the middle.

19. OUT, Stoinis traps the big fish!

OUT, Stoinis traps the big fish!
19/24

Just when Rohit Sharma was looking to settle in his groove, Aussie all-rounder Marcus Stoinis dismisses him. It needed a special effort on Tuesday to dismiss Rohit and that came from Peter Handscomb. In the 16th over, Stoinis bowls a short ball to Rohit, who goes after it but unfortunately, the centurion from the previous match mistimes the pull to be caught by Handscomb in the deep.

Due to the excessive heat in Australia, when Handscomb runs for the catch he has a direct contact with the sun which could have resulted in Handscomb spilling it. However, the fielder makes no mistake as he successfully completes the catch at the deep mid-wicket and look, what a charged up celebration from him. After all, it is Rohit's wicket, a big one.

While Rohit does not score big today, he sure has etched a special record acorss format - READ HERE

20/24

Maxwell comes to bowl the 31st over. Kohli waits deep inside the crease before he plays a late shot, beats the third man for two. He takes two again before taking a single to give Rayudu the strike. An under-pressure Rayudu, due to several mistimed shots, decides to go after Maxwell. He swipes over mid-wicket only to get caught by Stonis in the deep. Easy catch and Rayudu's poor run continues. Earlier in the day, former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly had raised concerns over Rayudu's overseas form and once again, Rayudu has failed to justify his selection for the No. 4 slot.

India are 166 for 3, need 133 more to win
