From India to Pakistan - ICC Men's T20 World Cup winners so far since 2007

With a new edition in progress, here is the list of all T20 cricket World Cup Winners teams from the year 2007 to date.

Originally to be held in India, the ICC Men's T20 Cricket World Cup 2021, shifted to the UAE and Oman due to the COVID-19 second wave that hit the host nation. BCCI still is having the hosting rights to the tournament.

With this being the seventh edition of the tournament, the first-ever was played in South Africa in 2007. While the tournament takes place once every two years, due to some planning changes made by the ICC and the COVID-19 pandemic, there was no T20 World Cup event in the last four years.

The ongoing tournament is being held in Dubai International Stadium, the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the Sharjah Stadium, and the Oman Cricket Academy Ground, from 17 October to 14 November 2021.

Currently, the ICC T20 World Cup consists of 16 teams, comprising the top 10 teams and six other teams chosen through the T20 World Cup Qualifier.

The inaugural edition T20 World Cup in 2007 saw India lift the trophy after beating arch-rivals Pakistan by 5 runs in the final at Johannesburg in South Africa. 

 

Misbah-ul-Haq had almost taken the win away from India but, when Pakistan needed 6 runs in 3 balls, he was caught by Sreesanth at short fine leg on Joginder Sharma's ball.

Pakistan, surely avenged their loss in the inaugural edition as they went on to win the 2009 T20 World Cup. They defeated Sri Lanka in the final by 8 wickets at Lord's in London.

 

Shahid Afridi was named the Man of the Match for his match-winning innings of 54 runs in 40 balls.

The next edition, - the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2010 saw England winning their first-ever ICC trophy after they beat Australia by 7 wickets in the final at Bridgetown in West Indies. 

 

This was a one-sided match as England won the clash against their arch-rivals with 3 overs to spare.

Powerhouse West Indies had won the T20 World Cup in 2012 after defeated Sri Lanka in the final by 36 runs in Colombo. 

 

The match was a low scoring game as the host could not reach the target of 138 runs and fell short of 36 runs.

After two times entering the final and losing it, Sri Lanka finally won the T20 World Cup in 2014 after beating India by 6 wickets at Dhaka in Bangladesh. 

 

India scored 130/4 in 20 overs and in reply Sri Lanka made 134/4 with 13 balls remaining.

West Indies - the only country so far to win two T20 World Cups. They won their second trophy in 2016 against England. 

 

Windies needed 19 runs to win and Carlos Brathwaite hit 4 sixes consecutively to take West Indies over the line at Kolkata in India.
