The Gabba fortress was breached after 32 years and two months by an injury-marred Indian side. The unthinkable happened when an injury-ravaged young Indian team beat Australia by three wickets in the final Test of the series on Tuesday to take the series 2-1.

With this victory, India rose to second place in the ICC Test Team Rankings, displacing Australia in the process. The Men in Blue also reclaimed the top spot in the ICC World TestChampionship (WTC) table.

But with teams like New Zealand, England and even Australia still fighting in the top four, what will it take India to reach the final of WTC.

Here is the possible scenarios of ICC WTC.

1. India

India
1/5

With the altered points system in place for the ICC WTC, percentage points will be the criteria.

India, who were second despite having more points than Australia, have now reclaimed their top spot after earning 70 points out of 120.

This sees Team India get to a total of 430 points. In this sense, India have 71.7 percentage points at the moment.

2. Australia

Australia
2/5

Before the third Test between Australia and India, the two nations had 76.7 and 72.2 percentage points respectively.

However, now Australia's tally has reduced to 69.2% after the final loss and they now occupy third place.

Australia have played four series so far and have two remaining and they will need to earn valuable wins to finish in the top two.

3. New Zealand

New Zealand
3/5

After playing five series in the World Test Championship, New Zealand occupy the second spot with 70.0%.

Out of 11 Tests, they have won seven and lost four and have racked up 420 points.

If Australia wins their next and India defeat England at home, New Zealand could miss out.

4. England

England
4/5

England are placed fourth with 65.2% and 352 points overall. They have a 1-0 lead in the two-match series against Sri Lanka and need to win the next match. They also need to beat India in their own backyard.

After the victory over Australia, India's qualification chances have bolstered. Beating England in the four-match series at home will almost guarantee India's place in the WTC final.

5. Rest of the teams

Rest of the teams
5/5

South Africa, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, who occupy fifth, sixth, and seventh positions respectively, are out of the reckoning for the qualification due to their low scores.
