Cricketers who made debut against India but are now driving bus to earn livelihoods

Some players who have no side business or contacts have had to do things to earn their living, which is just unthinkable.

From hotel chains to business to even opting for a job as commentators - cricketers make sure to always keep their future secured. The reason being as after they retire from cricket, there would be no source of income.

Cricketers normally earn a good amount of money and most of them are well-connected too. however, some players have no such fate and they have to do things to earn their living, which is just unthinkable.

One such case that had recently come to light was that of former Sri Lanka cricketer Suraj Randiv. The player was spotted driving a bus in Australia to feed himself. 

Let's look at three such players who made their international debut against India, but have now become bus drivers to run their family.

1. Suraj Randiv

The former Sri Lankan spinner had made his ODI debut against India in 2009. He had played in the final of the ODI World Cup against India in 2011.

 

In his cricketing career, Randiv took a total of 86 wickets in 50 international matches.

Suraj Randiv had grabbed all the attention in 2010 after he threw a no-ball at Dilshan's request to not allow Virender Sehwag to complete his century.

 

India had only needed a run to win and the Indian opener was batting on 99 runs. 

3. Chinthaka Jayasinghe

Another player from Sri Lankan - all-rounder Chinthaka Jayasinghe is also driving a bus in Australia to feed himself. The 42-year-old had played five T20 matches for his country. 

 

He made his cricket debut against India in a T20 played in Nagpur in 2009 and was also part of the Sri Lankan team in the 2010 T20 World Cup.

4. Waddington Mwayenga

Former Zimbabwean all-rounder Waddington Mwayenga, who had made his Test debut against India in 2005 is also driving a bus in Australia to make a living.

 

In his debut match, he scored 14 not out while batting at number ten and also took the wicket of then captain Sourav Ganguly.

All three are working for a French transport company in Melbourne.
