Shahid Afridi’s roller-coaster Lanka Premier League 2020 continues. After missing his flight to Sri Lanka and assuring health authorities that he had developed COVID anti-bodies after being infected earlier, Shahid Afridi will now miss a bulk of the Lanka Premier League 2020 again. The former Pakistan captain and all-rounder issued a statement that he will be leaving the tournament for some time due to a family emergency. Taking to his official Twitter handle, Shahid Afridi said, “Unfortunately I have a personal emergency to attend to back home. I will return to join back my team at LPL immediately after the situation is handled. All the best.”

This unavailability of Shahid Afridi is a body blow for the Galle Gladiators, who are at the bottom of the Lanka Premier League 2020 having lost all three of their games. Shahid Afridi had starred with a brilliant fifty against the Jaffna Stallions but it went in vain as Avishka Fernando hit a brilliant 92. In the game against Kandy Tuskers, Shahid Afridi was involved in an ugly confrontation with Afghanistan player Naveen-ul-Haq. The spat also involved Mohammad Amir.

Shahid Afridi dazzles

Shahid Afridi’s big-hitting prowess has still not dimmed at the age of 40 and it was evident during his exhibition of batting in the Lanka Premier League 2020 encounter between Galle Gladiators and Jaffna Stallions at the Mahinda Rajapaksa stadium in Hambantota on Friday. Although Galle Gladiators lost the match despite Shahid Afridi’s heroics, it was a timely reminder of what he could do even at this point of time in his career.

In another game, Naveen-ul-Haq - playing for the Tuskers - and Mohammad Amir got into a heated argument. They were seen having a go at each other and soon after the match ended, Naveen was seen being visibly angry with the Pakistan pacer. Despite their teammate's intervention, both players were heard saying something to each other.

When the Gladiators skipper Shahid Afridi, came out for a handshake with the opposition, he was seen talking to an angry and irritated Naveen-ul-Haq.  Afridi spoke to him and seemed to advise him to cool down, however, the Afghanistan prodigy didn’t look happy and ended up hearing a mouthful from the Pakistan veteran.

The veteran all-rounder reportedly told the Afghan rookie: "Son I was scoring 100s in international cricket before you were born".
