Kane Williamson became a proud father to a baby girl on Wednesday. The New Zealand skipper, who had missed the second Test against the West Indies in Wellington and is in doubt for the first Twenty20 International against Pakistan, took to Instagram to announce that he and his wife Sarah Raheem had become parents to a baby girl. Taking to Instagram, Kane Williamson shared a photo of him holding his newborn and he captioned the post: "Overjoyed to welcome a beautiful baby girl into our family." Kane Williamson was on paternity leave and he returned back to Tauranga on the eve of the second Test, handing over the reigns to Tom Latham as New Zealand completed an innings win to seal the two-match series 2-0.

At that time, New Zealand coach Gary Stead had said that Williamson would not be playing in order to be with his wife Sarah Raheem in Tauranga for the birth of their first child. Williamson’s career-best score of 251 in the first Test against West Indies had helped him jump up two places to join Virat Kohli at the number two spot in the latest ICC Test rankings for batsmen. With his recent performance, he gained 74 points, moving from 812 to 886. Kane Williamson will next be seen in the upcoming T20I series against Pakistan where he will miss the first T20I, but will return for the final two matches.

Great period for Williamson

Kane Williamson has been in top form in the last year and his score of 251 was the third time he had gone past a double century in Tests. As captain, Williamson has won five consecutive series at home and they have not lost a match at home for the last couple of seasons. A 2-0 win for New Zealand in the series against Pakistan will put them in a good position for the final of the ICC World Test Championship.
