It is official! If there is anything that Virat Kohli loves more than his wife Anushka Sharma, it is scoring runs at the Adelaide Oval. The Indian cricket team skipper, who is heading back to India on paternal leave as he becomes a father in January 2021, showed his brilliance in Adelaide once again as he scored his 23rd fifty to put India in a strong position during the night session of the Pink Ball Test against Australia on Thursday. Virat Kohli’s knock was unlike many of his other knocks where he had to grind and play with utmost skill against an Australian attack that was showing metronomic discipline from the likes of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc.

India chose to bat and they lost Prithvi Shaw to the second ball of the match to Mitchell Starc. Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara hung in but Agarwal was dismissed by Pat Cummins. Pujara was then joined by Virat Kohli and the duo stitched a partnership in excess of fifty but at the stroke of tea, Pujara was dismissed for 43. However, Virat Kohli found good support from Ajinkya Rahane as he notched up yet another fifty at the venue.

Kohli bradmanseque in Adelaide

In the past, Adelaide has been a great venue for Virat Kohli when it comes to cricket. His first major century was in 2012 at this venue when he hit 116 against Australia as India were whitewashed 4-0. In the 2014/15 series, Virat Kohli matched Vijay Hazare’s feat as he smashed 115 and 141 in both innings but India lost the match by 48 runs.

In 2015, Virat Kohli hit a World Cup century against Pakistan at this venue. In 2018, although he failed in the Tests, he smashed his eighth century when he helped India in a tense run-chase in Adelaide. In Twenty20 Internationals, his score of 90 which was his highest for some time was also achieved at this venue. With a fifty now in the Pink Ball Test, Virat Kohli might want to take this pitch with him wherever he goes.

If Virat Kohli scores a hundred, then he will become the first overseas player to hit two Pink Ball centuries.
