Australia have dominated proceedings on day 3 of the Sydney Test against India. Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara made a slow start and it was Pat Cummins who got the early breakthrough when Ajinkya Rahane dragged a short ball back onto the stumps for 22. Hanuma Vihari was run-out for 4 but Rishabh Pant joined Cheteshwar Pujara and the duo stitched a fifty-run partnership. Both were looking in good touch, with Pujara scoring his slowest fifty off just 174 balls. Pant, on the other hand, looked in confident touch. However, in the post-lunch session, Pat Cummins changed the entire complexion of the game. Josh Hazlewood dismissed Rishabh Pant for 36 but Cummins got the massive wicket of Pujara for 50.
Australia seized upon the initiative and they were helped by a couple of run-outs from R Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah. Ravindra Jadeja hung in and managed to get India's deficit to under 100 but Cummins got his fourth wicket by dismissing Mohammed Siraj. Australia will be looking to pile up a big lead against India if they are to take the game away from them. Despite losing David Warner and Will Pucovski cheaply, Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne stitched a solid stand which put Australia on top in the SCG.
