So far, according to the rules, a passenger was required to book a room for a minimum of 12 hours and a maximum or 24 hours.

The changed rules will "result in effective use of retiring rooms, better utilisation and also increase the revenue," Zee Business said.

The facility will be available on all major stations like Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Surat, and so on.

However, there's a catch here. Passengers will be required to book the room for atleast three hours. The maximum is 48 hours.

Also, hourly booking will not be allowed from 9 pm and 9 am. Passengers will have to book the room for a full 12 hours, in that time frame.

The tariff would be charged on an hourly basis.

Waiting or retiring rooms can be booked through the IRCTC website. The facility is only available on confirmed or RAC tickets.
