Infosys, India’s second largest IT services company, on Saturday announced that it has appointed​ Salil S Parekh as its new chief executive officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD).

Parekh, who is currently an executive at consultancy firm Capgemini, will take over on January 2, 2018, Infosys said in a statement. He has been given a 5-year term. 

"We are delighted to have Salil joining as the CEO and MD of Infosys," Nandan Nilekani, Chairman of the Infosys Board, said.

Here are 10 things about Salil S Parekh, who will lead the India's No. 2 IT firm:

1- Parekh has a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B) which he completed in 1986. 

2- He also has Master of Engineering degrees in Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University, USA.

3- Parekh has nearly three decades of global experience in the IT services industry.

4- Parekh worked with Ernst & Young as a Partner from 1992 to 2000.

5- Salil joined Capgemini in 2000 after acquisition of the consulting division of Ernst and Young.

6- He has occupied various leadership positions in Capgemini Group.

7- He was named a deputy CEO of Capgemini in March 2015. 

8- Parekh is also a member of the Group Executive Board of Capgemini. 

9- He has been Non-Executive Director of Capgemini Technology Services India Limited since May 4, 2017.

10- Salil S Parekh will only be the second non-founder full-time CEO of Infosys after Vishal Sikka, who exited the company abruptly in August this year.
