In a great news for nearly 1.30 lakh civic volunteers in West Bengal, their salary has been hiked by over 45%. The decision was announced by CM Mamata Banerjee.

This comes as a boost to the workers just before Durga Puja, which is the biggest festival in West Bengal. According to Zee 24 Ghanta, some time back civic volunteers were being paid Rs 3500 per month. After that, their salary was hiked to Rs 5500 monthly. Now, it has been raised to Rs 8000. Civic volunteers play a key role in maintaining law and order situation in close coordination with the police department. They are commonly known as civic police. 

The revised salary will be given from October 1, announced CM from state secretariat Nabanna. Mamata Banerjee in May had made the promise to hike salary during a civic volunteer's conference. Now, the decision has been implemented officially by the state government.
