App-based taxi service Uber will be launching its on-demand motorcycle taxi and sharing service, uberMOTO, in Bengaluru on Thursday.
The move comes soon after the service was first rolled out in Thailand recently.
Commenting on the development, Amit Jain, President, Uber India, said “Uber has always been at the forefront of innovation across the world. We are very excited to pilot uberMOTO in Bangalore -- pairing our on-demand technology platform with motorbikes, the predominant mode of transport in India. Enabling transportation at the push of a button, uberMOTO will offer another affordable mobility option that will help people save time and money while helping cut congestion in our cities over time.”
A statement from the company said that the service will work in the same way as the other options -- uberGO, uberX and UberBLACK.
Uber has said that persons who own motorcycles or scooters can also sign up as drivers
The minimum fare has been set at Rs 15.
Currently, this is the area in Bengaluru that the company will cover.
