This is happening because of the implementation of a new SMS regulation by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). As per TRAI’s guidelines, every SMS content with a registered template must be verified before it is delivered. This process is known as scrubbing and was implemented on Monday (March 7) after multiple delays and it has been live since the midnight of March 8, 2021.

The telecom regulator had given March 7 as the deadline to comply with the regulations, however, several big businesses including telcos and telemarketers in the country didn't comply with the regulatory standards because of which their SMSes aren’t being delivered to the customers in time. As a result, many, many people have been facing problems.

Meanwhile, telcos have defended themselves and said that this is because the companies haven't complied with TRAI's regulations.
