As part of much-needed economic turnaround, the government was seen in damage control mode with Prime Minister Narendra Modi constituting the Economic Advisory Council on Monday.

Niti Aayog member Bibek Debroy will be the chairman of the council. There are 3 part-time members also. They are: Surjit Bhalla, Rathin Roy, Ashima Goyal.

Ratan Watal, Niti Aayog's Principal Advisior has been appointed as the Member-Secretary of the newly-constituted Economic Advisory Council.

The council will advise the Prime Minister on issues pertaining to key economic reforms. It will also address issues of macroeconomic importance.

The council comes as amid the growing concern over slowing economic growth.

The GDP growth slid to a three-year low at 5.7% in June quarter sparking worried discussions across all sectors.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had said that the government will take every possible measure to boost the economy.
