Tea production falls 21% in January

There was no production in North India in the month of January, due to a ban imposed on plucking, according to latest Tea Board data.

13.96 mn kg – total tea production in Jan 2019

17.68 mn kg – total tea production in Jan 2018

7.81 mn kg – was contributed by the major tea growers

The Tea Board had in October asked gardens in many states in North India to stop plucking from December 15.

9.25 mn kg – Tamil Nadu

4.45 mn kg – Kerala
