Punit Goenka, MD & CEO, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL), received the award on behalf of Chandra. “Subhash Chandra, Member of Parliament Rajya Sabha is also the founder of India’s first satellite television company Zee Entertainment and is known as father of Indian television...” read the citation.

“It’s a matter of immense pride for me and the entire family at Zee and Essel Group to accept this prestigious award on behalf of my father. I am thankful to BMA to bestowing this honour upon my father, mentor and guide,” addressed Goenka at the gathering.

Chandra said, “I must say I was resisting accepting this award, because I felt not that worthy of taking any awards, but the jury reminded me that I have been instrumental in creating an industry in India which today gives jobs to almost 5 million. In 1992, Zee was the first private TV station and today we have 1.4 billion viewers across 173 countries. But more than that, I would say an industry got created and I happen to be the wrong person at the right time to have started this industry.”
