Sensex reclaims 32,200-mark, Nifty gains 175 points

Sensex rose further by 595.37 points or 1.88% to settle at 32,200.59.

Equity benchmark Sensex continued to rise on Thursday, rallying nearly 600 points to cross 32,200 mark as banking stocks gained on the second day in a row. 

After opening at 31,827.80 against Wednesday's closing of 31,605.22, Sensex rose further to day's high of 32,267.23 points before settling 595.37 or 1.88% at 32,200.59. 

Similarly, NSE Nifty rose by 175.15 points or 1.88% to close at 9,490.10.  

L&T was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rising 6.17%, followed by Hero Moto Corp, IndusInd Bank, HDFC Bank and Maruti. On the other hand, Bharti Airtel was the top laggard, followed by SBI and ITC.

In the Nifty pack, Zee Entertainment, Eicher Motors, L&T, Hero Moto Corp and HDFC Bank were the top gainers while Wipro, ITC and Cipla led the list of laggards. 

In the previous session, the BSE barometer rose 995.92 or 3.25% to end at 31,605.22, while the broader Nifty closed 285.90 points or 3.17% up at 9,314.95. 

This comes as the nationwide coronavirus-enforced lockdown continues albeit with relaxed guidelines, allowing certain economic activities. According to the Union Health Ministry, coronavirus cases in India climbed to 1,58,333 and the death toll touched 4531 on Thursday.
