Bajaj Finance was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rallying 7.84%, followed by IndusInd Bank, Bajaj Finserv, Infosys, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank.
Sensex on Tuesday jumped 187 points, tracking gains in the banking sector in a volatile session.
After touching the intra-day high of 36,723.27 and the day's low of 36,271.09, the 30-share BSE index settled 187.24 points, or 0.51%, higher at 36,674.52.
Similarly, NSE Nifty rose 36 points, or 0.33%, to end at 10,799.65.
Bajaj Finance was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rallying 7.84%, followed by IndusInd Bank, Bajaj Finserv, Infosys, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank. NTPC, ITC, Power Grid, Tata Steel, ONGC and M&M were among the laggards.
This came amid strong performances including American markets. Asian indices, on the other hand, gave a mixed performance.
