MUMBAI: After gaining in two consecutive days, the stock markets on Tuesday witnessed a downtrend with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) benchmark Sensex losing nearly 120 points.

The BSE barometer ended the day with a loss of 119.81 points at 19,127.73 points, after touching day's low of 19,019.33 points.

While metal and banking indices fell, a sharp rise in realty sector averted any significant fall.

The wide-based National Stock  Exchange index Nifty dropped by 33.55 points to 5,698.15. It had touched the day's low of 5,655.60 points.

Metal index lost 180.49 points at 17,344.05, followed by bank index by 95.49 points at 10,495.46. Realty sector index rose by 125.33 points at 10,206.60.
