The rupee rose marginally by 4 paise to 66.79 against the US dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on fresh selling of the American currency by exporters and banks.

Forex dealers said apart from selling of the US currency by exporters and banks, a higher opening in the domestic stock markets, supported the rupee.

They said, however, dollar's strength against other currencies overseas, limited the gains.

The rupee had closed with a gain of just 1 paisa against the US dollar at 66.83 in the previous session on mild selling of the dollar.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex recovered notably by 139.77 points or 0.55 per cent to 25,175.82 in early trade.
