RCom to launch Internet Protocol Television service in Mumbai, Delhi in next 3-months

Mobile service provider, Reliance Communications (RCom) plans to launch its much-awaited Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service in Delhi and Mumbai in the next three-months, a top company official said."We plan to start our proposed IPTV service initially in Delhi and Mumbai in the next three-months. In the second phase, we also have plans to introduce it in six other cities," RCom's chief executive officer (DTH and IPTV), Sanjay Behl, told PTI here.IPTV operates on video signals received via the Net using a set-top box that will make TV viewing more interactive, Behlsaid.Moreover, IPTV will offer the largest library of national, international and regional video content such as movies and music, among others. Besides, customers can have a choice of over hundred TV channels including High Definition (HD) channels and exclusive Reliance Channels, Behl said.IPTV uses standard networking protocols, which promises lower costs for operators and lower prices for users. Using set-top boxes with broadband Internet connections, video can be streamed to households more efficiently than current coaxial cable.In the past, MTNL and BSNL have launched IPTV.
