Petrol, diesel to be cheaper in THESE states - Know fuel rates here

Following the footsteps of the Central government, some states were quick to take a similar stance and announced tax cuts on petrol and diesel.

Amid a steep surge in fuel prices for months together, the government of Wednesday announced its decision of reducing Central Excise Duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10 (per litre) respectively from Thursday. Following the footsteps of the Central government, some states were quick to take a similar stance and they too announced tax cuts on petrol and diesel.

Assam, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa, Uttarakhand and Manipur have announced a reduction in excise duty on petrol and diesel which will take effect from Diwali. Assam and Tripura were the first on Wednesday evening to announce tax cuts on petrol and diesel. 

This was followed by the Karnataka and Goa governments which also immediately announced a price reduction of petrol and diesel products.

States which reduced excise duty on petrol, diesel 

Assam -  Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a VAT reduction of Rs 7 on both petrol and diesel with immediate effect. "Heartening to learn Central Govt decision to reduce excise duty on petrol and diesel. In consonance with the decision of Hon'ble PM @narendramodi, I am pleased to announce that Assam Govt will also reduce VAT on petrol and diesel by Rs 7/- with immediate effect @nsitharaman," he tweeted.

Tripura - Chief Minister Biplab Deb announced a Rs 7 reduction of VAT on petrol and diesel, which will be effective from Thursday. "A happier Diwali for the 37 lakh people of Tripura," the Chief Minister tweeted. Petrol and Diesel will now cost Rs 98.33/lt & Rs 85.63/lt respectively in Agartala.

Karnataka - The state government announced its decision to reduce VAT on petrol and diesel by Rs 7. "Karnataka state government has decided to reduce the price of diesel and petrol by Rs 7 per litre. This will lead to a loss of Rs 2,100 crore to the exchequer," CM Basavaraj Bommai tweeted on Wednesday. He added that petrol will cost an estimated Rs 95.50 per litre in the state and diesel Rs 81.50 per litre.

Goa -  The Goa government too followed suit and introduced an additional reduction of Rs 7 on petrol and Rs 7 on diesel, thereby reducing the price of diesel by Rs 17 per litre and petrol by Rs 12 per litre. CM Pramod Sawant took to Twitter to make the announcement.

Himachal Pradesh - Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur took to Twitter to announce that the state government will issue a notification soon announcing a reduction of Value-Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel prices.

Bihar - There will be a further reduction of state VAT by Rs 1.30 on petrol and Rs 1.90 on diesel apart from Rs 5 and Rs 10 reduction on excise duty by Central government, Sushil Kumar Modi tweeted. Effectively, petrol will be cheaper by Rs 6.30 and diesel by Rs 11.90 in Bihar, he said. 

Uttarakhand - Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also announced a reduction of Rs 2/per litre on petrol. He however did not say anything about any reduction in the price of diesel.

Manipur - Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that the state will also reduce VAT on petrol and diesel each by Rs 7 per litre with immediate effect. "I'm also pleased to announce that the Government of Manipur will also reduce VAT on petrol and diesel each by Rs 7/- with immediate effect," he tweeted.

Uttar Pradesh - The state government also announced a reduction in VAT on petrol and diesel, which will result in reducing the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 12 per litre in the state.

Gujarat - The state government announced on Thursday the implementation of the Centre's decision and reduced prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 7 per litre in the state.

Haryana - The state government has reduced VAT on fuel prices in the state. Now both petrol and diesel will be cheaper by Rs 12 per litre. "On the occasion of Diwali, the central government has announced a reduction in the prices of petrol and diesel. Taking it forward, the Haryana government has also reduced the VAT on fuel prices; now both petrol and diesel in the entire state will be cheaper by Rs 12 per litre," Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar tweeted.
