The octogenarian traces his humble origins from a Kerala hamlet to the thick and thin of the corporate world, and the book is full of insights into his life, where he says he rose from a salary of Rs 3,000 per annum in 1950 (not in Times Group) to Rs 30 lakh per annum in 1996 at the largest newspaper group in the country.

He retired from the Times Group as an executive director in 1999 after putting in 22 years.

The book was launched by T S Krishnamurthy, former chief election commissioner, and R Krishnakumar, a former director of Tata Sons this evening.

Krishnamoorthy said it took him five months to write the book after being encouraged by his friends after he shared his experiences on Facebook.
