Oslo Innovation Week to host Indian business and government leaders

The event focuses on start-ups and brings entrepreneurs, investors and corporates, scientists and experts from all around the world to learn from each other, get inspired

The city of Oslo will host Oslo Innovation Week, one of Europe´s premier technology start-up-investor events, starting September 24th. The event focuses on start-ups and brings entrepreneurs, investors and corporates, scientists and experts from all around the world to learn from each other, get inspired and make things happen.

Subjects that will be covered are health, smart city/urban innovation, education and edtech, fintech, blockchain, artificial intelligence, life below water, women in technology, food and more.

Ann Olestad, consul general of Norway in Mumbai, said that "Until recently Norway rarely featured as a player in the start-up ecosystem. But in the last few years, it has emerged on the internal map as an innovation hub by attracting international interest and investment".

A four-member high powered delegation from India will be visiting the Nordic region from 23rd September till 5th October. They will also be going to Nordic Edge Expo and Conference 2018 in Stavanger in Norway on the 26th and 27th September. Nordic Edge is one of the flagship events of the Nordic region on the smart cities. This visit is a part of the tour to the Nordic region in which the Indian delegation will visit all the five Nordic countries to study smart cities solutions by the Nordic countries. This tour is under the aegis of Nordic Innovation which is an organisation under the ministerial of the five Nordic countries.

Indian government came up with the Smart City Mission (SCM) in June 2015 to make one hundred Indian cities smart. Among the projects in SCM are affordable housing, integrated multi-modal transport, creation and preservation of open spaces, and waste and traffic management, among others. The projects focus either on a particular area of the city or the entire city.

This Indian delegation comprises of Minister of Urban Development, Government of Uttar Pradesh, Suresh Kumar Khanna. Another member of the delegation is the Municipal Commissioner of the City of Ghaziabad, C P Singh. The third member is Imagine Panaji CEO Swayandipta Pal Chaudhuri and the fourth member is director Imagine Panaji Siddharth Kuncalienker.

Oslo Innovation Week is organised by the City of Oslo and Innovation Norway, and Oslo Business Region is project manager.
