ONGC posted a net profit of Rs 4,974.92 crore, up 6.3% compared to the Rs 4,681.39 crore net profit posted in the same period last year, according to a notification filed by the company to the BSE.

The company posted net sales of Rs 18286.62 crore compared to the Rs 20395.78 crore posted in the same period last year, a drop of 10.3%.

ONGC said it will pay Rs 4.50 per share as interim dividend. 

Its July - September exploration cost write-off was at Rs 547.40 crore versus Rs 1,728.23 crore in the same period last year. 

While announcing the results, the ONGC board okayed a one-for two bonus share issue, Cogencis said. 

The company has not shared fuel subsidy for the July-September quarter. 

After the quarterly results, ONGC's shares were trading at Rs 291.45, up Rs 1.30 or 0.45% from previous day's close. Stock price was slightly down from the intraday high of Rs 293.
