Taxi aggregator Ola has announced the launch of its social ride-sharing platform 'Ola Share' in Chennai on Saturday after launching the service in Kolkata.

Users who travel on the same routes can now use this service to share their cab rides with other users, the company said in a release. 

According to the company, the social ride-sharing platform has been designed to let customers share cab rides, help them cut daily travel fare. The service can be shared by up to three people.

In 2013, Ola launched its services in Chennai and it is the second-fastest growing market for the company after Bengaluru. On Friday, the company had commenced the 'Ola Share' service in Kolkata.

To promote the new service, Ola has announced a flat 50% discount on 'Ola Share' fares over the coming month for customers in Chennai and Kolkata. 

In the next six months, the company plans to expand the car-pooling service to 20 cities in the country. Currently, the 'Ola Share' service is operational in cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru.
